Don Hutson

JOIN HIS LODGE

MEET DON HUTSON

Chances are if you have ever visited George B. Dealey Lodge then you have met Past Master Don Hutson. He is a regular at the meetings and rarely misses, he is also most likely to be the first one to shake your hand when you walk in. Don Hutson was first brought into Freemasonry by his Brother Bill. He always looked up to his big brother and wanted to be like him. It was a regular outing for the two brothers to shoot pool and spend some quality time together. But as Don’s brother Bill was canceling their outings due to Bill attending lodge Don became curios and started asking questions. After talking about Mason’s Don’s reply was “I don’t want to miss out on all the fun”.

On May 28th 1956 Don petitioned George B. Dealey lodge and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason, in the lodge later that year. Don and his wife Joyce were married in 1960 they have been inseparable ever since and after 55 years you can easily see that they are still inlove as much as day one. When asked about what it was like to be married to a mason Joyce replied: It was hard being a new mother and Don going to lodge but in finding out that Mason’s dates back to the time of Salmon it became easier. Joyce has always been heavily involved in her church also saying “I raised my children in church”.

Family is the most important thing to Don and since Freemasonry has become more open in the last decade, it has made him so incredibly happy and he believes that is the best path for Masons. He enjoys it when the wives and kids come to lodge or anytime when he is around children. Don’s son Robert and Grandson Sam are also Master Mason in George B. Dealey lodge, and Robert was made Master of the lodge in 1993. Don was in the United States Navy for a total of 10 years including the reserves. He also worked for ATT for 33 years doing various jobs including climbing telephone poles, laying lines and office work. Retired now he spends most his time with family and friends enjoying being an American citizen.

Don is a recipient of the Golden Trowel award and has gone through all parts of Masonry including 32 Degree Scottish rite and all degrees of York rite. Don will repeatedly tell you that his favorite part of masonry is Blue Lodge. Don enjoys the comradely and fellowship between the bothers, and if you have ever talked to Don you will have gotten that feeling of love and joy that he gives off as you talk to him. More than anything Don wants to be remembered a person who “...does not offend anybody”. He wants all his brothers to know that the decisions he made as a mason and as the master of the lodge were done for the good of freemasonry. Don Hutson has been a staple in our lodge since he joined. He makes all members and visitors feel like they are his family and welcomed. You are always welcome in his home and in his lodge.
